The municipality’s infrastructure and services in the social sector focus on primary community care. Within this framework, a local network of services has been established aimed at providing as comprehensive an intervention as possible, to meet local needs in the areas of social protection, health, employment, and solidarity, in order to strengthen social cohesion and improve the quality of life in the city.

Within the Department, an Unemployment Information Office operates, providing information, counseling, and employment support for the unemployed.

It supports welfare benefits, including the issuance of Certificates of Financial Need for free ferry travel due to poverty, funeral expenses for the indigent, free medical care for the uninsured, emergency financial assistance in cases of natural disasters, as well as the Social Solidarity Income (KEA).
It provides reception, information, and support to citizens, connects them with services and structures, and offers additional services to improve Roma integration (supporting education, promoting employment, and advancing health).
It provides services for coordinating preventive screening interventions.
It is aimed at elderly individuals and provides services for psychosocial support, primary healthcare (clinics and preventive examinations), active aging, and volunteerism. It is aimed at individuals over 50, volunteers, and the indigent. It provides KAPI services and runs a municipal meal program with cooked food for elderly living alone, people with disabilities, and the needy. It houses the Social Grocery and the Soup Kitchen facility.

It is aimed at individuals and families unable to meet their basic living needs. It operates under the project “Basic Goods Provision Structure of the Municipality of Agia Varvara” (NSRF 2014–2020, Attica ROP) and distributes food, grocery items, frozen products, personal hygiene products, clothing, footwear, household goods, toys (new or used), and entertainment items to families not included in other material assistance programs (such as TEBA, etc.).

It provides daily meals to individuals living in poverty who are unable to prepare food at home due to lack of facilities or inability to self-care (chronic illness, disability, advanced age), giving priority to children. The Social Pharmacy distributes medicines, parapharmaceutical products, medical supplies, and other essential items for patient care to individuals who demonstrably cannot obtain them and are at risk of going without treatment. It is part of the project “Basic Goods Provision Structure of the Municipality of Agia Varvara” (NSRF 2014–2020, Attica ROP).
It provides educational support to elementary, middle, and high school students with the assistance of volunteers.
